The devonharris’s Podcast

I know this...sometimes when I wake up in the morning and I am healthy and I am scheduled to go to a facility, I get in my car, arrive at the gate and if I get through security to at least one young man or group,

I know there is going to be a battle.

It has become the norm over the years because of where we go.

It is a place of spiritual darkness and often the young minds do not even realize they are in the midst of “the pit.” Not the prison walls some talk about, but the spiritual bondage which has led them, possibly to the crime for which they are doing time. Most of the time I go in with no agenda, trusting God to speak something to somebody to open a door so they can have an awareness of God in their life.

The LORD is a warrior" (Ex. 15:3). God is a warrior. He has come to rescue us.
The Forge:A year out of high school with no plans for his future, a boy is challenged by his single mom and a successful businessman to start charting a better course for his life. Through the prayers of his mother and biblical discipleship from his new mentor, he begins discovering God's purpose for his life is so much more than he could hope for or imagine.
From the Good LifeSharing the Good Life with othersTHERE ARE SOME PEOPLE who grow up in rough neighborhoods with nothing to their names. But then they find some way to make a ton of money. So they move out, and never think about their neighborhoods again. All they care about is taking care of themselves. They never give back to the community, and they never think about the kids growing up like they did. They are criticized as self-centered snobs who forgot where they came from. Well I’m afraid that many believers have become spiritual self-centered snobs. Many of us have forgotten where we came from. As Ephesians 2:1–2 reminds us, “You were dead in your trespasses and sins in which you once walked …” There was a time when all of us were hopelessly lost in our sins and far from God. The only reason any of us are reconnected to God is the grace of God. If you are a Christian today, it’s not because you’ve met some list of requirements, and therefore have found a way to restore yourself to God. That’s the beautiful thing about the Christian gospel. It tells us that God loves us, pursues us, and woos us back to Himself. He sees our need. He sees our weakness. He sees our sin; and He does the reconciling. Jesus had compassion on us, literally came to get us, picked us up, and carried us to God. Our legs were lame and our hearts were hard, but Jesus brought us to the Father. But you never would have known about this Jesus if nobody told you about Him. There are other people who are back where you used to be. They’re dead in their trespasses and sins. They’re not living the good life, in fact, they’re rebelling against it. They need to be saved, to turn from their sin and believe the good news about Jesus.

Who Am I - Identity Crisis of Youth Today - Not Guilty - August 19 2024
Don’t ever let anyone hold your sins against you. Satan can’t declare you guilty, though he would love to. We must ignore him when he says that God could never forgive sinners like you and me. The bitter people in your life can’t declare you guilty because you’ve been forgiven. Trip Lee - The Good Life

Gang Myth  – More laws & legislation will decrease gang activity by longer, harsher prison sentences.
The United States incarcerates nearly 2 million people. But the problem of mass incarceration in this country is not just a function of the number of people in prison—or the much larger number of people who cycle in and out of jails every year. Our system also incarcerates people for far too long, doling out excessively long sentences.
